Kennels for Change: Aiding the Mission of Tailgait Rescue

Our team was recently commissioned by Tailgait Transport & Rescue, a nonprofit animal rescue, to build a custom kennel for housing out-of-state rescue dogs. When given the opportunity to play a part in rescue dogs finding their forever homes, our team jumped at the chance to make a difference. Today, Trailside remains a strong supporter of Tailgait Transport & Rescue, being a firm believer in their mission and wishing to see all dogs find their forever families.

Tailgait Transport & Rescue’s Mission

Founded in March 2022, Tailgait Transport & Rescue is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is helping dogs that are homeless or at risk of euthanization. Tailgait is dedicated to rescuing dogs from kill shelters and giving them another chance at life in loving homes.

This organization works with a network of shelters in the Northeast to relocate at-risk dogs to no-kill shelters. Tailgait’s reach extends beyond the north though. Volunteers at Tailgait frequently travel south to states like Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina to bring dogs up north. By transporting dogs to shelters in other states, they help reduce overpopulated states and overflowing shelters. This also gives hard-to-adopt dogs new opportunities to find their perfect home. The organization has since developed an adoption program of its own and plans to expand its space to help more dogs.

Custom Quarantine Kennel

Kennel Requirements

When transporting a dog to another state, certain state laws require these dogs to be quarantined for at least 7 days. This quarantine ensures the transferred dog is free from any diseases or illnesses before coming into contact with other animals. Because of these regulations, Tailgait needed a kennel that could withstand heavy daily use from dogs of all breeds and sizes, as well as keep dogs securely separated from each other in their boxes and runs.

Tailgait’s Custom Kennel

For this custom project, Trailside Structures built a 12×16 4-dog capacity kennel. This kennel features 4 dog boxes, 4 covered runs, built-in air conditioning, built-in stainless bowls, stainless steel channel drains, guillotine dog doors, 6-gauge 2×4 galvanized run walls, and 6-gauge 2×4 galvanized run doors. With this kennel, rescue dogs will stay secure, comfortable, and safe during their transitions to foster homes and shelters. Because these dogs come from unknown backgrounds, this kennel was made with easy-to-clean materials and accessories to ensure the kennels are fully sanitized between canine residents.

2024 Wine & Whiskers Fundraiser

In addition to building a custom kennel, our team at Trailside was a proud sponsor of Tailgait Rescue’s 2024 Wine & Whiskers fundraiser. This 3rd annual fundraiser featured live auctions, silent auctions, wine, chocolate, hors d’oeuvres, and live music by Paul Nelson. As a charity organization, Tailgait’s operations are run by volunteers and rely on community donations. In a post on Facebook, Tailgait Transport & Rescue announced that the fundraiser brought in $40,000 with all proceeds going to help rescue dogs!
