What to Bring to Your Lake House Cabin Getaway

Going to the lake is a great summer vacation for many families. After you’ve finished setting up your modular cabin from Trailside Structures, you can take a relaxing family vacation to your lake house cabin. Many vacationers may be wondering what to bring to their lake house cabin to make the trip as smooth and fun as possible. Here are some must-have items to bring to your lake house vacation.

Lake House Cabin Vacation Essentials

Clothes

The first thing you’ll need to bring to your new lake house cabin vacation home is clothes. Make sure you bring your swimsuits, towels, toiletries, and dry, breathable clothes to your lake house. Your clothes should be breathable and lightweight since a lake vacation usually calls for warm weather, but we recommend bringing a light jacket for cool mornings and nights. Natural and light colored clothes reflect sunlight, so they won’t make you as hot as darker clothes that absorb light. For shoes, we recommend bringing sneakers for any walks or hikes you take, flip flops for the lake, and a pair of nice shoes in case you go to a fancy dinner.

When packing for your vacation, keep in mind that our cabins will have everything you need for a hassle-free trip. Our Bridger Log Cabins have a large porch so you can hang your family’s wet clothes and towels to dry outside. For dirty clothes, all our cabins have washer and dryer hookups for your convenience.

Protection

First Aid

We recommend bringing a first aid kit to any vacation home for unexpected small injuries. Have bandages, gauze, antiseptic wipes, antibiotic creams, tweezers, medical tape, and pain relievers for a basic first aid kit. You should also bring any medications you’ll need.

Bug Spray

Since you’ll be outside a lot, both at night and during the day, have bug spray on you. There tend to be more bugs by the water, especially mosquitoes, so bug spray is a necessity for your lake vacation. We’ve found that having a relief cream, like calamine lotion, in your first aid kit is beneficial to have to help with any bug bites.

Sunscreen

A necessity for any summer vacation, bring sunscreen (at least SPF 30) to protect from harmful UV rays. If you’re bringing children on the vacation, make sure you bring both sunscreen for kids and sunscreen for adults. Wear a hat and sunglasses for additional sun protection.

Indoor Cabin Activities

After a long day at the lake, you and your family will want to spend some time inside your new lake house cabin. Bring books, games, and movies for indoor entertainment. Our cabins, built in Montana and Pennsylvania, are perfect for a lake vacation, with inviting living areas for indoor activities and a connection to the beautiful lake outside. The Tiny House, Abrasokee, Teton, and Yellowstone Log Cabins all have spacious living rooms that are great for family game nights or movie nights. Each cabin is pre-wired for kitchen appliances, like a refrigerator, range, and microwave, perfect for making a nice after-the-lake family dinner.

Outdoor Activities

Lake Activities

There are lots of things you can bring to your lake house cabin to keep you and your family entertained. Bring lake toys like floaties, tubes, paddleboards, kayaks, and fishing poles, and outdoor games like a football, cornhole, and a frisbee for a variety of activities to do. If bringing inflatables, make sure you have a pump to blow them up. If you plan on going out on the lake on a boat, life jackets are essential, especially for children.

Land Activities

Aside from enjoying the lake, there are multiple outdoor activities you can do on land on your vacation. Get a fire pit for a cozy late-night fire to roast marshmallows and make s’mores on cool summer nights. Make a daytime picnic by bringing a cooler with ice for drinks and snacks. Montana and Pennsylvania’s lakes often have beautiful waterside trails, bring bikes and hiking gear for a morning hike or bike ride. Bring a portable speaker to listen to music, and always have trash bags on hand to leave the space cleaner than you found it. Our cabins provide ample storage space with lofts and built-in shelves for any outdoor gear when it is not in use.
